Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does It Cost?

In most situations, mediation is free.  Some specialty mediations services charge a nominal fee. Please contact the NJC for more details regarding your situation.

Who Can I Bring to the Mediation?
Mediation is a confidential process, so only the parties directly involved in the dispute will participate in the mediation.
What if There is No Agreement?
Parties are always free to pursue any legal options at their disposal.
Can I Mediate by Phone?

Yes, you may also participate by video or in-person.

What if I Need an Interpreter?

Contact the NJC immediately in order to arrange for interpreter services.

Can You Accommodate My Disability?

The NJC is in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.  Contact the NJC in advance to allow us time to meet your requirements.

How Long Does It Take?

We ask parties to set aside two hours for each mediation session.  If the issue is not resolved, the parties may come back for two additional mediation sessions.

Can My Attorney Come Instead of Me?

No, the purpose of mediation is to allow the parties in conflict to have a productive, non-adversarial conversation. We require the individual parties to participate although they may bring their attorney with them, however the attorney will not participate in the mediation. If you plan to have your attorney present please inform the office when scheduling your appointment.
