The Neighborhood Justice Center (NJC) was established by the Nevada Legislature in 1991 as a “forum for the impartial mediation of minor disputes including, but not limited to, disputes between landlord and tenant, neighbors, family members, local businesses and their customers, hospitals and their patients, and governmental agencies and their clients. . .” The NJC is charged with conducting mediations, providing alternative conflict resolution services, and training throughout all of Clark County, which covers approximately 8,061 square miles and contains a population of more than 2.1 million people.
In 2006, the NJC became a division of the Las Vegas Justice Court (LVJC). The NJC’s alignment with LVJC reflects the growing national awareness that not all disputes are appropriate for the adversarial process and there are multiple paths to justice. Consequently, the NJC’s vision is to educate the public regarding alternatives to litigation, thereby creating a greater opportunity for and ability to address issues in a less confrontational manner. By providing facilitation and mediation services, the NJC has become a resource for all Clark County residents, organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies.
