Persons who are scheduled for Initial Appearance Court are those who have not posted bail, or have not been administratively released on their own recognizance. The vast majority of persons arrested are seen in Initial Appearance Court within 12 - 24 hours of their arrest. Initial Appearance Court is not an arraignment court. There are no criminal complaints filed in Initial Appearance Court.
The purposes of Initial Appearance Court are:
(1) to have a judicial review of criminal charges to determine whether probable cause existed for a person’s arrest;
(2) to have the persons personally appear before a magistrate; and
(3) to have judicial determination regarding their custody and/or release conditions.
Hearings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend
If you need to reach the clerk in Initial Appearance Court prior to the start of a court session, please email LVJCInitialAppearanceCourt@ClarkCountyNV.gov A clerk is present in the courtroom approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of each session.
